THE ABCHURCH YARD PROJECT

Through our regular newsletter we keep you updated on the development plans for Abchurch Yard, as part of the building works at 10 King William Street.

Chris and James picked this up on being elected, where our focus was very much on the Bank Station project (which completed in mid-2023) and then on the updated planning permission for the site where we’ve done our utmost to improve the proposals and to incorporate public realm improvements to the surrounding area, particularly Abchurch Yard, working in conjunction with local businesses and St Mary Abchurch.

We are pleased to say that after many tiresome delays, the construction work has begun and we therefore have a timeline to the upgrade and development work for Abchurch Yard.  Our representations were successful, and you will see in the detailed plans a much improved and expanded public space both inside and outside the building site. As you know, we’ve pushed hard to improve the scheme for Abchurch Yard and all those on Abchurch Lane.

We are also pleased that the expanded public space will provide further seating and recreation space (please see the impression images) and most importantly, the Yard and Lane will finally be on the same level and indeed level to both King William and Cannon Street!

We do really think this is going to regenerate and improve both the Yard and surrounding streets both visually but also for pedestrian traffic, revitalising our most important and accessable public space ehre in Candlewick.
